Fundação Cidade de Guimarães revealed yesterday, the 28th of July, the logo for Guimarães 2012 European Capital of Culture, through a communication campaign by the local community, which will spread to the rest of the country by the beginning of August.
Inspired in battlements of the Castle of Guimarães and in the helmet of the King Afonso Henriques, Guimarães 2012 European Capital of Culture logo is born from a "window-heart" which unfolds in multiple sides. The logo has more than one version, but it can have as many as each one's imagination is able to create.
The concept of Guimarães 2012 ECOC logo holds a double meaning, the idea of participation, joint build-up of a brand – Guimarães 2012 European Capital of Culture –, and the idea that our culture is designed from the set of all visions, maximising the European culture. The launching campaign shows the multiple interpretations on the visual identity of the Capital of Culture by means of a live, joyful and affectionate communication.
