Guimarães 2012 engages in a new communication strategy
A new stage in the communication of the European Capital of Culture has just started. On the first day of June, the first issue of the new monthly printed newsletter will be released, containing information on the making-off process of the European Capital of Culture.
With an initial print run of 21000 copies, the publication will be distributed to mailboxes in the city center and also in public spaces like cafes and cultural venues. The printed newsletter will have a corresponding digital version, to be issued every two weeks. This one will be sent to all subscribers who have registered on the website, either in Portuguese or English, depending on the version chosen by the user.
A new advertising campaign will also be launched in June. It will look into key words of the project, amplifying their power and sensory impact on the public by use of a contemporary graphic design language based on the color and rhythm of words.
Journalist Fátima Campos Ferreira moderates the first meeting
In June, the initiative Guimarães 2012 Meetings will provide a new opportunity for involvement and acknowledgement of the ECoC project in Guimarães. A total of nine meetings will be organised, focused on each of the cultural programming areas. The first one, to be held on the 17th of June, will briefly contemplate the whole programme.
Moderated by the renowned journalist Fátima Campos Ferreira, the first meeting is to engage local stakeholders around the major programming areas. It will be attended by all the programmers, the representatives of Fundação Cidade de Guimarães and the City Council. The event will take place at the Vila Flor Cultural Centre, starting at 9pm. Admission is free, requiring pre-registration.
The following meetings will take place between the 21st of June and the 14th of July, on the theme: Film and Media, Performing Arts, Thought, City, Public Space, Art and Architecture, Music and Community. These meetings are aimed at strengthening the connection between the city and the ECoC team, mainly the program directors, fostering the debate and reflexion on each topic.
In addition, there is a growing involvement of the community with the project on various levels. Evidence of these, for instance, the Music Competition of Guimarães, the various sport activities organized in partnership with the Municipal Centre for Leisure and Sports – Tempo Livre, the programming project designed by local associations named Intersecting Times, and the strengthened role of Oficina – one of the most relevant agents in the Guimarães' cultural scene – in the production of the event.
