The aim of this exhibition dedicated to Francisco Martins Sarmento, one of the most important figures of the city, is to show how this Guimarães’ citizen achieved his position, not deliberately, but by dedicating his life and work to archaeology.

The legacy of this great thinker’s life and work, admired by both Portuguese and foreign contemporaries, was consolidated in Sociedade Martins Sarmento, which has already commemorated its centenary.
