Photography of Inês d’Orey and Carlos Lobo from images of the Muralha Collection of Photography
7th of september
From a selection of images from the Muralha Photographic Collection, Association for Guimarães Heritage Protection, the photographers Carlos Lobo and Inês d'Orey carry out a work of re-photographing the city of Guimarães.
Exploring latent meanings in the images of a photographic archive under construction, the two photographers approach in their distinct languages and aesthetics, the perception of time and its passage through the creation of new images that give a new meaning to the images file: spaces, absences, changes and continuities present to us through a photographic renewing relationship.
Muralha Photography Collection comprises 5000 original photographs from Foto Moderna and from its predecessor, Foto Eléctrica Moderna, including both studio portraits and city images on glass plates and film, depicting the city from the late 19th century until the 1960s. This collection was bought in the 1980's by Muralha, Guimarães Association for the Protection of Heritage. During 2012, the Reimagining Guimarães project, developed by the Cinema and Audiovisual Department of 2012 European Capital of Culture, has been responsible for the cleaning, scanning, classifying, exhibiting and publishing of these images.
