Paço dos Duques de Bragança
of 2012.08.07 to 2012.08.29
7th of August
SARHA EXHIBITION at Paço dos Duques features two fifteen meter long embroidered tapestries created for the SARHA project by Yassof Salfeet and Robaeuat Alkhazan women's centres in Jenin (Palestinian Territories) and Grupo de Formandas do Curso de Bordados de Guimarães (org. IEFP).
The Palestinian tapestry depicts a Palestinian woman's walk in life, reflecting traditions and rules of society and the situation within the occupation.
The Portuguese tapestry shows the path of fifteen women learning a local craft, to find a new line of work and become economically autonomous, and their way of taking their skills to an artistic freedom.
A photo exhibition will give an insight to the personalities behind and the process of the embroidery creations.
At the opening 6th August there will be a reading by Wafa Hourani of his poems and a musical performance by the LION STATUES OF REVOLUTION.
The exhibition features the fourth sculpture in Wafa Hourani's series DARWIN WAS A PALESTINIAN and HASSAN EVERYWHERE, which he commenced in 2009 and is exhibiting in Berlin, Ancona, Florence, Mechelen and New York this summer.
