Gilles Lipovetsky (born in 1944) is a French Philosopher, working at the University of Grenoble. Considered one of the most prominent living philosophers, his work is an exegetical study of the postmodern culture, based on the predominance of the “individual” over the “universal” and the extreme diversification of conduct and gestures.
He published an extensive bibliography, including “L'ère du vide” (The age of emptiness); “L'empire de l'éphémère” (The Empire of Fashion: Dressing Modern Democracy); and “Le devoir du crepuscule” (The Twilight of Duty), which are considered to be contemporary classics.
The conference "Culture-Monde et Culture Européenne" takes place on the 30th of April, at the Vila Flor Cultural Centre, starting at 3pm.
