Inspired by the crenels of Guimarães Castle and the helmet of King Afonso Henriques, the Guimarães 2012 logo stems from a “heart window” with multiple facets.
The image’s concept is based on the event’s multidisciplinary nature and the cultural diversity it celebrates. The proposed identity is an open system of images and textures – representing a multitude of memories, experiences and views – which may be (re)created and adapted by (authorized) users. The numerous expressions of Guimarães 2012 European Capital of Culture’s graphic identity bear witness to the rich imaginative capacity, fruit of a networking society.
